Fellowship with Grace and Compassion

Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing. For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it.
~ 1 Peter 3:8-11 ~

When an individual is a victim of cruelty my aroused sympathies often tempt me to give advice. I may see so clearly that the situation is resolvable. Yet I must realize that not everyone has the faith, strength, and courage to take decisive action. To make a radical change in their way of living.

If I urge someone to do what I think I may do in a similar situation, and my advice is acted upon, the outcome may be an even greater tragedy, and I may be responsible for that.

The only help I am able to give is to offer grace and compassion. Pray for them. Pray for wisdom and guidance in how I may be able to comfort and support them. Listen and empathize with them. Sit with them in silence. We do not ever want to feel trapped.

Faith comes when we recognize what choices we may have in a moment of crisis. Hope empowers us to make those radical changes by taking decisive action. Not because of the advice someone has provided. Because we find fellowship and support with one another.

I may not know what course of action is right for others. I am only able to offer comfort, grace, and compassion through the good life I am striving to build.

TODAY’S PRAYER AND MEDITATION

Heavenly Father, through your spirit, I only offer compassion, grace, and comfort to those struggling. Through your word, I live to serve in a manner that provides fellowship through my presence and listening to another. Praying for their needs and struggles, and being available to hear them in their time of need. Help me realize that it is not what I say that brings grace and comfort into their lives. It is my very presence and love for them that hopefully shows them of your love and presence. In Jesus Name, Amen
